Built-in accessibility features
Open the ♿ Accessibility button in the bottom-left corner of any page to turn these on. Your choices are saved on your device.
Colorblind-safe board
A high-contrast grayscale board and hue-independent highlights, safe across all types of color vision.
Dyslexia-friendly font
Switches to a highly legible typeface with generous letter, word, and line spacing. Uses OpenDyslexic if installed.
Larger text
Scales the whole interface up for easier reading, without breaking the layout.
Keyboard & focus support
Interactive controls are reachable by keyboard with a clear, always-visible focus ring.
Screen-reader labels
Boards expose a grid with per-square labels (e.g. "e4, white pawn") so a screen reader can describe the position.
Child-safe & private
Classroom pages run without third-party analytics, and student data is minimised. See our Privacy Policy.
Our commitment
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Accessibility is an ongoing effort: we test with keyboard navigation and screen readers, and we prioritise fixes that remove barriers for students. Some legacy screens are still being brought up to full conformance.
For schools & districts
If your procurement process requires an accessibility conformance report (ACR/VPAT) or has specific Section 504 / ADA / state requirements, contact us and we will work with you. We're happy to walk your accessibility team through the product.
Tell us what's not working
If you hit an accessibility barrier, please tell us — it helps us fix it faster. Use the Feedback link in the footer, or email vivienne@ngchess.com. Please include the page, your device, and any assistive technology you were using.
