What is a FEN?
FEN (Forsyth–Edwards Notation) is a short line of text that describes any chess position — which pieces are where, whose turn it is, and castling rights. Teachers use it to share puzzles, coaches use it to set up training positions, and apps use it to load a board. Build a position above and the FEN updates automatically; paste a FEN and click Load FEN to set the board.
